NBA Praying Together - 20 December 2020

Prayers for December 20th 2020

from Paul Revill - NBA Mission Enabler

As Christmas draws close and the period of waiting and preparation transitions into the celebrations of Jesus' birth, take some time this weekend to consider some of the parallels between waiting in this Advent season and the waiting we've been experiencing under the pandemic restrictions.  The hope of an effective vaccine and an opening up of society once again; and the hope of a saviour to deliver us from sin, shame and death.

As you pray this weekend, here are some further themes to focus upon:

·         Pray for all our churches as they celebrate the incarnation, that God will bring fresh revelation and insight into his nature and character in taking on human flesh and blood.

·         Pray for our churches as they engage in outreach this weekend with carol services, carol singing, online faith sharing and practical action.  As there are fewer alternative distractions this year, may churches become more central in their community life as people celebrate Christmas.

·         May we all find ways of living more slowly, more simply, more Christ-focussed lives this Christmas, giving time and space for the Saviour.

In my role as NBA Mission Enabler, please can you support me in prayer…

·         As we look to engage in a thoroughgoing review of Association life under a new Strategic Transitional Leader whom we hope to appoint in the Spring, may God bring clarity to how all the other staff roles will relate to this new role, and be guiding us in how we might need to change in order to embrace the new future which God has for us.

·         I am working on several projects for 2021: growing a mentoring network of younger and missional leaders across our churches; launching an Association year out discipleship scheme; developing our mission strategy, especially the pioneering and social action aspects; growing in our practice of online mission.  Please pray for God to lead and guide in each of these.

With thanks!

Paul Revill

NBA Praying Together - 13 December 2020

This week we as part of our NBA prayer cycle we ask you to pray for South Bank Baptist Church in Middlesbrough

For thanks and praise:

We praise and thank God for the way that so many in our church have served and blessed our community in the Name of Jesus in these difficult times.

We praise and thank God for the growth in faith and trust that many have experienced, especially among newer Christians.

We praise and thank God for those faithful members who have not been able to attend anything in person but have constantly and consistently prayed for our church and our community throughout this time.

For prayer:

Leadership elections will take place early in the New Year. We ask for wisdom and guidance, we ask for courage and faith, we ask for vision and understanding.

We ask for God to give us clear direction as to whether a possible new project is from Him or not.

We ask for God to move mature Christians into our community. For so long South Bank has been seen as a place people move away from, but we see God restoring and renewing it in front of our eyes, and we ask for Him to do even more.

Ephesians 1: 15-16 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

NBA Weekly Prayer Request - 29 November 2020

This coming week in the NBA we are being asked to pray for the Pioneer Roundtable:

The National Pioneer Roundtable advocates meet every few months to connect and discuss the pioneering work which is going on in our different areas.

Please pray for the pioneers working in a variety of situations through the north.

·         In this time of disruption pray for God's Spirit to inspire them with the imagination to 'Sing a new song in a strange land'.

·         Pray for those within our churches who have a pioneering gift. That we may be able to spot them and release them.

·         Pray for those who are in tent-making or bi-vocational roles who may be struggling with finances during the lockdowns.

·         Pray that God will raise up pioneers across the UK to meet the Baptist Together focus for Pioneering.

How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land

NBA Praying Together - 22 November 2020

This week, as part of our fellowship of prayer, we ask you to pray for New Life Baptist Church in Northallerton

  • Give thanks because Jesus is still building His church.  Pray for New Life that we will get in step with what the Spirit is doing and not be afraid to try new things.  Community & Neighbourhood are two key areas where God has been sending us to work with the other churches in the town to be Good News:

Pray for:  Our work in The Living Rooms, 'A quiet shared space where it's ok not to be ok'; Our work with Syrian Refugees, helping them to settle and find work, and our work in the new housing estates, welcoming people to our town.  Pray also that we will work out how to disciple people who are connecting with us through online church.

  • Give thanks because Jesus is still watching over His church.  Pray for New Life, that we will find new ways to stay connected by supporting and encouraging each other.

  • Give thanks because Jesus is still calling His church closer.   Pray for New life that we will have a fresh vision of Jesus.  Pray that the church throughout the NBA and in our nation will return to her first love, and draw closer to Jesus Christ our Lord.

NBA Praying Together - 15 November 2020

This week, as part of our fellowship of prayer, we ask you to pray for Darlington Baptist Church

The church fellowship has been thankful to God for the recent opportunities to physically worship together, in limited numbers. The Grange Road site (10.30 am Sunday mornings); the Corporation Road site (6.00 pm Sunday evenings) and, again, the Grange Road site at 2.00pm on Wednesday afternoons have been attended by regular attenders and newcomers alike. We are so grateful to our joint ministers, Vicky & Barry Thompson and the church Elders for planning and presenting worship at these times.

We ask that you join us in thanking God for:

Ø  The appointment of Pete & Dawn Johnstone as leaders of our Basement Project and the tremendous progress which they have already achieved.

Ø  The team of helpers which is supporting Pete & Dawn in the packing and distribution of food parcels and the provision of hot food when the current situation allows.

Ø  For the benefits of electrical technology which is creating opportunities for group meetings as well as individual contact during the pandemic.

Ø  The efforts, already achieved, through which our ministers are combining with other church groups to bring the love and saving grace of Jesus to Darlington.

Please pray with us that:

Ø  The children in our church fellowship will soon be able to, again, meet together. Pray for the willing staff members who support 'Rock Solid' – the children's group – that their love for Jesus expressed Sunday by Sunday will always remain with each child.

Ø  During Covid-19 restrictions, God will inspire our ministers to continue in their quest to present the Gospel message through YouTube and Facebook.

Ø  Individual fellowship members will find ways of keeping in regular contact with each other.

Ø  God will guide those in the church, who feel isolated and forgotten, towards a fresh sense of belonging through shared faith and in the knowledge that their lives are cherished and valued by God and those around them.

Ephesians 1: 15-16 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

NBA Praying Together - 8 November 2020

This week, as part of our fellowship of prayer, we ask you to pray for our Military Chaplains.  Thanks to Pastor Bob Adams for the following guidance:

Military Chaplaincy is much like any other ministry because people are the same regardless of their circumstances.  There are, of course, some aspects that make the role different.  Wearing uniform is the obvious example, but working within a hierarchical structure, particularly from a Baptist perspective is rather unique.  The Chaplain's role is to work alongside the chain of command in order to be the 'neutral voice', and the 'advocate' for all. This means the role includes being a minister, priest, confidant, friend, companion, and even an irritant at times.

The one difference that does stand out is the age of those whom they minister.  There are no elderly, and very few long-term sick.  This means that they have as their community young, fit people with plenty of ambition.  This brings pressures of its own.

o   Chaplains are often isolated.  Pray that they would know the companionship of the Holy Spirit and to be strong when others are weak.

o   Pray for focus, motivation and relevance as the military machine continues to move and change.

o   Pray for Chaplains' families as there are constant moves.

o   Pray for Chaplains who are married and serving unaccompanied, which brings unique pressures.

o   Pray for the Chaplain General and his team who must balance pastoral care of the team and the needs of the Army.

Ephesians 1: 15-16 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.

NBA Praying Together - 1st November 2020

Dear All

This coming week we invite you to pray for Oxford Road Baptist Church, Hartlepool

They give thanks for Phil Dixon coming to be their minister and ask for prayer that Phil and Margaret will settle in quickly.

They ask that we pray for:

People who are still isolating at home and not yet coming to church. That they will know God's presence and that the streaming of the services will be useful to them.

Pray for the church's outreach. Many of the things that we would usually do aren't happening at the moment so it's even more important that we reach out to people through the Orb Centre and personal relationships.

That the church's time and resources will be used well to further God's kingdom.

May God bless you in this fellowship of prayer.

Ephesians 3:20 with God's power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.

NBA Praying Together 27th September 2020

Dear All,

We express our thanks and appreciation to Roger Daniel who has stepped down as our Prayer Co-ordinator. We thank him for his service and support over the past 18 months and wish him well as he serves God in other ways. Please pray for God's guidance as we seek how best to explore this ministry of encouraging one another in prayer.

As we seek God in prayer this weekend let's pray for our land and our world as we move into a new season and time of challenge with the Covid pandemic.

Let's give thanks and praise God for:
  • His faithfulness, love and power
  • the fellowship of His people and support we offer to one another
  • the support and care of so many in society, providing help and comfort to the anxious, grieving and ill.
  • the creative opportunities for friendship, worship and discipleship

Let's pray

  • that we will hear the promises of His Word and seek the guidance of HIs Spirit.
  • for our government, MPs, researchers and specialists that they may act with good wisdom, understanding and compassion
  • for all who are finding life difficult because of the restriction we encounter
  • for all who are suffering and grieving
  • for clear medical breakthroughs to bring help and relief
  • for good international co-operation and especially support for poorer nation

'Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Psalm 43:3-4.

God bless!

John C

NBA Prayer Topics 6th September 2020

Give thanks for:

·                The small steps forward, which the church has made in worshiping together in the church building.

·                The way members of the fellowship supported each other in the dark days, and continue to do so in the present.

·                The wonderful truth, that God's faithful love surrounds his people at all times and in all situations.

Pray for:

·                Wisdom as we seek to open up different aspects of church life, so that we ensure everyone has support, and are able to engage in some way in the life of the fellowship.

·                The church as it continues to work through the Re:Imagine initiative.

·                Those; in the fellowship who continue to feel isolated and lonely due to their personal experience of lockdown.

·                The surrounding community; that those bonds that were forged in a time of adversity might continue to be strengthened in the present.

NBA Prayers: Sunday 30th August 2020

'By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, that you have love for one another.'
The whole world it seems, clamour for a sign. Herod desired to see one, the Pharisees and teachers of the law wanted one, even Jesus's cousin John was eager for one. His case is understandable. He came as a forerunner to Jesus, who according to Simon perception had come to rid Israel of the Roman yoke. Yet here he was, languishing in a damp, dark dungeon. Today little has changed. We are still eager for signs to validate our ministry. Jesus's reply to John is as applicable for us today as it was to John's situation. Understanding our need, Jesus promised that signs would follow us as believers. Yet from his perspective the most important sign of God's activity in the believer's life is our love for others.

We give thanks for;

  •  the fellowship, love and support seen among the ABC family during this difficult time.
  • the coordinated Alnwick town response during lockdown and pray that this care, community cohesion and organisations working together would continue in the town.

Please pray;

  •  for us as we trial offering our most vulnerable members of the church family the opportunity to come together for a prayer based service on a Sunday morning.
  • that God's presence would be more evident than the risk assessments!
  • for our three missional communities, that we would have wisdom to know when and how we can begin interacting in small groups face to face.
  • for revival to come to Alnwick,  that God would soften people's hearts and that we would see where God is at work being his hands and feet in Northumberland.

NBA Prayers 23rd August 2020

Encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Th. 5:11)
It is easy to overlook the importance of encouraging each other. Whatever other ministries we may possess, we all have the ability to build one another up through the gift of encouragement. A few positive words at the right time can make such a big difference. In our fast paced world it is so easy to overlook the myriad small acts of kindness that people provide for us each day. Let us purpose to give words of encouragement to at least two people daily.

  • that all things work together for good for those who follow Christ
  • for the surety of our salvation

Please pray;

  • for our members welfare during lockdown
  • that we may soon be able to return to regular worship
  • that we may still provide an effective and caring ministry to our community

Prayers For The School Year

Many of us know the story of David Wilkerson and his ministry amongst the New York gangs. 'The  Cross and the Switchblade ' tells of the successful crusade he held at which a number of gang leaders committed their lives to Christ. Not so well known are the personal details surrounding his circumstances at that time.
Shortly before the event, he had been visiting the home of a minister friend. This friend had been backing a car out of the garage, little realising that his infant son had been playing behind the wheels. The results, as you can imagine, were devastating. David thought,
'What terrible sin must my friend have committed for God to allow that?'
David's relationship with God changed as a result. Instead of serving Christ out of love, he began working from a fear of consequences should he displease God.
One night, he returned exhausted from the crusade. Creeping into his infant's nursery, he picked up the sleeping babe. A voice commanded him to drop the child. Instead, he held tighter. Three times the command came and each time he clutched the infant tighter. Finally, in desperation he yelled,
'This is my child and I will never drop my child.'
The reply came,
'And you are my child. I will never, ever drop you.'
Tears of repentance fell from David's eyes as he realised the significance of this message.
Let me ask, what is it that motivates your ministry?

NBA Prayers 9th August 2020

A great number of believers suffer from poor self esteem. Comparing themselves to others, who have glowing testimonies, they argue that God could never use them for their inadequacies. Consolation is found in the fact that they at least do not suffer from pride.
This is far from a realistic image however, and can do great harm, whilst preventing us from reaching our full potential. One of my favourite scenes from Bunyan's 'Pilgrim's Progress' is that in which the travellers are in a room packed with wondrous clothing, Dressing themselves in the finery, they admire one another. Due to the fact that there are no mirrors, they are unable to see how wonderful they themselves appear.
We are clothed in Christ and bear his fragrance. We may not recognise this in ourselves, but be assured that when we grasp this fact our communities cannot fail so see the saviour's grace in us.

Give thanks for;

  • our new building and the development of our website
  • the Digital Family Prayer Adventure Map and other resources
  • our leadership team and their initiatives

Please pray;

  • that we may reflect God's love to the people of Gateshead
  • for those people engaged in front line services to our community at this time
  • that we may soon be able to use our new building to its full potential
